4th Con [Video]

[For once, the PCD turns on when 'Kenneth' intended it to. When he does, he's leaning back against the couch in his house and looking more serious than the times people have talked to him over the network.]
I generally don't do this kind of thing, but all this lying is starting to get to mefor some reason. My name's not Kenneth Crane, and I'm not a country singer. I'm Eliot Spencer; a... retrieval specialist that's part of this pro bono team. The guitar thing?
[He reaches off camera, grabbing the instrument by the neck and showing it on camera. After tossing it to spin, catching it before it hits anything, he puts it back off to the side.]
Our client was hurt and deprived of a lot of things by a record executive. To even things out, we started what's called a Fiddle Game; a con. So everything was part of an alias, keeping in with the role. I kept with it and lied because I've made a lot of enemies. So it was better that I kept the alias in case some of those enemies actually showed up.
Anyway, I'm sorry about the deception. I'm a man of my word though, so everything offered still stands. Lessons and other services are still open as long as you're okay with that.
...
That's all.
[Yeah, just... turning off the feed now.]
[[Evented Eliot is now extremely open, honest and prone to feeling a little guilty and charitable. Take advantage! Also if you haven't filled it out, here's a permission post for his observational skills.]]

Date: 2011-09-25 05:15 pm (UTC)I'm not saying the event brought about the guilt, but the acting on it. Normally I'd just bear with it like everything else. That's how it works though; these events make people do things. Like how you're acting like your cousin.
Thing is... I never asked for anyone's trust. I'm just stuck with this honesty thing. Most likely you can ask me anything this week and I'll answer truthfully.
[And he hates the event for this. Eliot recognizes the change, and knows he won't do anything about it.]
Date: 2011-09-25 06:03 pm (UTC)[Her eyes narrow.]
This week. Meaning that next week, when the event has left us, you will return to lying and hiding your identity? You will think of some new story to spin?
Date: 2011-09-25 06:30 pm (UTC)[Shakes head, running a hand through his hair.]
It doesn't work like that. What I did will really piss me off come next week, but this post comes with consequences that can't be changed. I'll just have to live with the fact that everyone knows I lied about my name and profession. Aside from people feeling betrayed, that just means I have less time and defenses if someone bad from my world comes looking for me. Seeing as I'm the paranoid type, while I liked that bit of security, overall it doesn't change much.
Date: 2011-09-25 06:48 pm (UTC)And yet you have done it, knowing it will upset you next week. Foolish. You could refrain from using your little device until the urge to speak passed, and we would have been none the wiser.
[She shakes her head.]
I suppose I must thank you for being so foolish. It has taught me not to trust you.
Date: 2011-09-25 10:18 pm (UTC)I'm naturally a lurker; it's my thing. Except it's not, due to being affected by the event.
[It's so simple. Why do you not get it. :( Eliot's frustrated and not able to release it.]
Because you feel like I was lying the entire time? In the end, it's just a name and occupation that I lied about. Everything else came out of truth. Like you saying I was a minstrel; it's true that I was a novice, because I picked it up for performance that week before showing up here. What I said about the Montague and Capulet names is true as well.
What you should do is look at and question the people you've been trusting already.
[Because he lurks and sees these things. You have a lot of time to do that when you sleep only 90 minutes a day.]
Date: 2011-09-25 11:13 pm (UTC)[The word is foreign to her, but she can guess its meaning.]
You are like Kururu, then. One who watches rather than engages in society. Do you spy on ladies at the hot springs as he does?
[She bites back a snarl.]
So now the liar and lurker wishes to make me question my friends, those who have helped me and taken care of me. To what end? Do you wish to start a feud? I have had enough of such things, as you should know if you know my family names. You will not make me doubt those for whom I care.
Date: 2011-09-25 11:42 pm (UTC)[One thing is disturbing, the other is just completely and utterly wrong.]
If you're so hung up on someone that lies about their name, out of professionalism and paranoia, then you really won't appreciate what others have lied about. You spoke about trusting people, so I'm advising you, Mrs Montague; [In Italian:] 'Use this week to ask your 'Lord Saxon' about everything he knows of your assault.'
[Yes, he switched to Italian at the end there. Partially for effect, and because he can. He also used a more professional tone than he had been using before. Because he was a lurker, and it didn't affect him, this information was kept to himself. Now being open... Open books are fun.]
Date: 2011-09-25 11:54 pm (UTC)[She's also picking on him over his name because she did the very same thing when she first arrived - lied about her surname. And it had horrible consequences, in her mind, and to see someone else do it, to be reminded of it - it makes her feel awkward and uncomfortable. So sorry, Elliot, you get to be the whipping boy on this. Any other week, and she'd have been a little concerned, but understanding.
The switch to Italian takes her by surprise, and she's grown comfortable enough with the modern dialect, thanks to her conversations with Fran, to understand him easily. When she finally is able to reply, it is in her native Veronese, and she is doing all she can to keep her temper in check.]
You will not say one word against Lord Saxon, sir. The man is my friend, and he has told me what he knows of the events of the day. Everyone today has attacked him, and without cause. I will hear no more against him. You will not drive me to distrust a man who has saved my life twice in this place, and who has treated me with nothing but kindness.
Re: [Video]
Date: 2011-09-26 12:09 am (UTC)[Well, he's handling it rather well. Being open like this is just keeping him from letting it drop properly. Especially considering there's actual concern towards someone she does trust. Someone that hasn't actually gone about saving her life as much as she thought. (Yes, he's read back. Only 90 minutes sleep a day after all this time, you can learn a lot.) As such, he keeps things in Italian for now, preferring to speak modern but apparently following her Veronese well enough.]
That was a recommendation; an actual attack would say more than you should hear from me. Saxon knows more than what he's told you, including exactly who your attacker was. You're strong enough to go against your family, so you should know everything about that time. Use this week, not after. If it's really as you say, then you may choose a fitting penalty after the week's over.
Date: 2011-09-26 12:17 am (UTC)[Still in Veronese.]
You wish me to attack a friend when he is already being attacked from all sides. I will not do this. What grudge have you against Lord Saxon that you would attempt to drive a wedge between us? You would separate him from his friends. But you will fail, sir. Your lies continue, even now. If he knew more, he would have told me. It will take more than your 'warnings' in my native tongue to make me doubt him.
Date: 2011-09-26 12:30 am (UTC)It's not like I can make you believe me. So I'm just stating things as they are.
If he was honest before, this wouldn't do anything to your friendship. I'm not telling you to attack him; just ask a question. If it's as you say, then nothing changes. There's only two reasons that you don't want to; 1, you're afraid that what I say will follow through, changing your relationship. Then 2, a big reason, you don't want to put less than all of your faith in someone you decided to call a friend. Because that's part of who you are Juliet, and even this event hasn't change that.
Date: 2011-09-26 12:46 am (UTC)I have asked him before, when I was recovering from the event. He has told me what he knows of what happened that day. What reason would he have to lie? I can think of none. Had he wished me harm, he could have ignored me that day, left me to the creatures of the wastes or the mercy of my attacker, and he did not. He could have left me with Madara a month ago, and he did not. He came to my rescue on both occasions.
Date: 2011-09-26 01:04 am (UTC)However, there are reasons why someone would it would seem that way. [In fact, he thinks he might've stayed at the clinic if the Doctor hadn't been hypnotized into being a guard.] Saxon is-
[Stop, try that again.]
You won't believe what I say on any of this, Mrs Montague. There are many reasons why someone would rescue a girl that many people like, even if they wished the person harm. I'm not going to give reasons or stories. I'm just saying to ask this to someone you do claim to trust.
Date: 2011-09-26 01:23 am (UTC)[She's angry enough to goad.]
Lord Saxon has never wished me harm. If you lurk, as you say you do, then you should be able to see this quite clearly. It is plain to anyone that he does not wish me harm, and has never done so.
Date: 2011-09-26 01:40 am (UTC)[And when the event is over, you'll be glad that he didn't straight out tell you these things, but said to ask Saxon himself.]
Reading for certain traits is part of what I've done for a living, and I've met the man Juliet. So I won't be saying anything past the fact that you should ask Saxon about these things before the week ends.
Date: 2011-09-26 01:51 am (UTC)[She raises an eyebrow.]
Reading for certain traits? Such a phrase makes little sense to me, sir.
Date: 2011-09-26 01:59 am (UTC)[Right, he should explain that a bit more clearly.]
Are you aware of the people that are hired, or trained in the military, to spot spies, conspirators and traitors? I've had similar training.
Date: 2011-09-26 02:16 am (UTC)I know not of such people at home, but I would be a fool to think the Prince does not have someone able to do such a thing among his retainers or guards.
[She thinks a moment.]
If you will not tell me of Lord Saxon, then tell me something you have learned through such observations of someone else whom I know.
Date: 2011-09-26 02:29 am (UTC)[Something private, which would display the date of the last change if looked for. (Not written in character, but something he'd do thanks to the possible events that could happen. He'd rather have his wits about someplace.)]
If that's what you'd like. Is there anyone in particular? If it's someone that I haven't taken the time to properly observe them, It'll be more of a base reading.
Date: 2011-09-26 02:35 am (UTC)[She really hasn't paid attention to whom he knows that she knows as well, so she thinks of someone she knows well enough that even his base reading could prove his skill.]
Tell me of Hanna Cross, then, Mr. Spencer. And I shall tell you whether you have the right of him.
Date: 2011-09-26 03:01 am (UTC)[Leans back, nodding. Also, as base a reading as possible that should also be clear due to Hanna actually being a canonically mysterious character. xD]
Base reading, then. Due to him proving to only to be considered a danger if provoked or under influence of an event, I didn't set him as a priority. That and I don't understand the magic with the markers, so information on that is minimal. I'd set him as a good guy, in the sense of being a loyal friend that would do anything he could to help and protect those close to him, or seem to need it. There's also something distinctive that says he's either a private detective, has or had been learning to become one. After I determined that much, I decided that there wasn't any need to go deeper into particulars but instead watch for a sharp turn in personality.
Date: 2011-09-27 01:15 am (UTC)Unless a man is dangerous, you do not see him as a priority, Mr. Spencer? Do you view everyone in terms of being a potential threat, and dismiss whomever does not seem to be as being of little note? Would it not prove more beneficial to you to befriend those who are kind, rather than dismiss them as being of little interest?
Date: 2011-09-27 03:13 am (UTC)Do you read into every detail of the lives to someone that could actually be viewed as a friend, or someone you typically wouldn't be faced in a fight against? You wanted to know about reading people, and in that I determine the importance of how much should be read, and how much information the person should be allowed to offer themselves. Low priority means giving them the respect to reveal such information on their own, instead of being analyzed.
If you want perspective, he's set not too far from my teammates and friends when I first started getting to know them.

Date: 2011-09-28 06:23 am (UTC)Tell me what you think about mind control, Juliet. Yes, this is related.
